About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her, "Was this the price you and your husband received for your land?" "Yes," she replied, "that was the price." And Peter said, "How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young men who buried your husband are just outside the door, and they will carry you out, too." Instantly, she fell to the floor and died. When the young men came in and saw that she was dead, they carried her out and buried her beside her husband. Great fear gripped the entire church and everyone else who heard what had happened.” (Acts 5:1-12 NLT)
We are calling upon God to pour out His Holy Spirit, but have we considered what that means?
Why do believers who have a loving, providing Father crash and burn? Ask Ananias and Sapphira.
When God's Holy Spirit comes in power hypocrisy, lying, deceitfulness, gossiping, back biting, un-forgiveness, taking offence, will all come before the light of His holiness and some will crash and burn.
Though attempts will be made to blame others for the situation, the Holy Spirit will shine upon hearts until they can squirm no longer, then either repent or crash and burn.
When the Spirit comes in power every self- generated motive of self-exaltation will be seen for what it is-- rebellion.
Let each of us examine our hearts and be ready for the day of His visitation.
May each of us ....
... offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire. (Heb. 12:28-29 NASU)
